What’s up guys, Andrea Rene here for Clevver Games with a game Trailer [HD]” href=”http://pcgamereviews.info/command-conquer-tiberium-alliances-announcement-trailer-hd.html”>announcement from 2K Games. The publisher revealed their plans to develop a new XCOM game! No, not that first person shooter spinoff, but another strategy based game called XCOM: Enemy Unknown. . It will be the February cover story of Game Informer and will be developed by Firaxis Games. You may know Firaxis from a little franchise called Sid Meier’s Civilazation. The title is slated for a launch later this fall and will be instantly recognizable to X-COM fans. . There will be an emphasis on deep strategy and tactical combat where players will control a secret paramilitary organziation called XCOM. As the commander, you’ll defend against an alien invasion by managing resources, advancing technologies, and overseeing combat strategies. . The reimagining is based heavily on the original X-COM from back in 1993. Did you guys see the gameinformer? The thin mans creepy as hell!

@benjmanx Dude, are you stupid? Firaxis is one of the best game developers in the world. Blizzard would have dumbed the title down and made it harder to lose than win to appeal to a broader base.

  4. benjmanx says:

I wish Blizzard bought the X-Com series. They seem to be the only ones that get that when you have an awesome game like X-Com you don’t have to reinvent the wheel and try and ‘enhance’ the game. This new version looks crap because they are trying to redesign it. I hate the look of the bases &the battle view. Firaxis if you are listening… Don’t try ‘improve/endhance’ the best game ever. I just want the original X-com UFO Unknown and TFTD with better graphics & polished gameplay! eg starcraft 2.

Thank god they are comming out with a strategy version. I spent all my waking hours either playing the old XCOM UFO Defence or thinking about it. I missed a lot of work playing that game back in the day. My brother did too. I really don’t care much for the FPS version.

  6. LetGoAndLove says:

X-Com can only be strategy, id like to see what the FPS is like though. And XCOM Enemy Unkown has to compete with UFO Aftershock, as well as the original UFO Enemy Unkown and Terror From the Deep. Firaxis and 2k make good games so far when it comes to Civ series and others, I have high hopes for this game.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! i played this 18yrs ago and spent so many all nighters on this game! There are so many people who have no idea about how good this game was, all crying because they wanted some other game to be released well I got news for you. All us XCOM fans have been waiting 18yrs for this and i think we are due. Im praying for this remake to have everything from the previous game and more. DUE fall, im thinking they going with the mayan calendar apacolypse date for more sales (smart!)

They have a big opportunity to nail this one, but sadly I don’t think this game is gonna be a big hit. First, the story line isn’t based on what we know about secret underground bases and alien greys. They should create a game play based on “Dulce.” As you might know, a secret war is being waged with the some species of Aliens, and the UFO technology is manifesting itself by the workings of anti-gravity technology. There is so much that can be done on this that these guys aren’t near the win

  10. albericosa says:

definitely more excited for the strategy one since it will retain the original formula all we xcom fans love so much

  11. efgragin says:

I dont need it on my xbox, or better graphics.
I just want a version where i can see whats happening and doesnt crash every 10 minutes…

  12. rangersleadtheway7 says:

Nothing better then the original. I don’t know about the rest of everyone, but I’ll just keep on playing the X-COM 1993 version.

    i like monkeys

  14. Matster196 says:

i read about this in my game informer and now its safe to say i want to get this game and i don’t really like strategy games! I love it!

  15. ultimatecrayon says:

pscccch why even bother making that FPS? it looks shit anyway. too modern. No menu systems and inventory to sort out. No STRATEGY — if they are true to the original and i mean TRUE then…only then will i take a second look. BUT ANYWAY FIRAXIS HAVE SAVED US!

  16. Kage848 says:

:O no words no fucking words DAY ONE Buy. Ill even buy for 360 and PC.

  17. bottlerocket765 says:

Read the GI introduction to this game. I CANNOT wait to play this! There hasn’t been much to choose from as far as full on strategy games goes as of late. So i’m excited to play a game that allows you so much customization and game play choices.
The FPS looked ok. But I won’t be touching it. I’m all for the TBS.
    Anyone play ALPHA CENTARI?

  18. pibbleton says:

If they weren’t told of a connection to x-com, would anyone even think that FPS game was related?

  19. Wesker0o0o0 says:

    Can’t wait for this.

  20. ktchong says:

That other FPS version is so screwed.

  21. HardWarUK says:

This is real! And remember Fireaxis was put together from the old Microprose – the original publisher of X-Com in 1994 (not 1993!)! This means there will staff inside the company that will put pressure on the programmers of this new version if they stray too far! Lastly, Fireaxis have announced that the hardest difficulty level is going to be called “The Classic Level” – and that sounds good to me! The only reason I am worried is I have such high hopes for this game!

  22. Lightscribe225 says:

@Skyrage01 Rumors. Emphasis on rumors. Half of those rumors could be false. The other half might be true, but they might be changed by the time production finishes. Judging a game off of rumors before it even gets past beta is stupid.

  23. kuaikukia says:

This is much better than that pathetic FPS XCOM

  24. BaneOfIslam10 says:

YES! This is not the FPS Abomination!

  25. xxnoblimexx says:

Nice way to under cut the other fps game…..kinda of wack that the new game doesn’t even get a chance. Damn fanboys! i love the original of course but i was interested to see the new direction…..lame
